After dazzling audiences the world over with more than 200 performances, receiving international acclaim and having taught the dance as well, Vidhya Subramanian continues to bring tremendous energy and dedication to promoting and preserving the ancient art form of Bharatanatyam.

Known for her bold, modern themes and strong choreography, Vidhya has given as much as she has received from her background in the traditional Vazhuvoor style from the eminent Guru Sri S.K.Rajarathnam and the famous abhinaya exponent Smt. Kalanidhi Narayanan.

The titles of 'Singar Mani' (Jewel of Narration/ Expression), 'Natya Arasi' (Queen of Dance), 'Nadana Mamani' (Great Jewel of Dance) among others speak of her superlative mastery over the narrative expanses, intricate footwork and rhythmic aspects of Bharatanatyam.
Vidhya’s performances have stood out as a beacon to Indian Culture and World Arts, and have been an important part of many cross-cultural events, in India and other countries. Through Vidhya’s evocative rendition, Bharatanatyam has crossed international boundaries and touched the chords of dignitaries and arts enthusiasts in USA, Russia, France, Germany, Kenya and Afghanistan.

In 1990, Vidhya started her own Bharatanatyam production company and school called Lasya, in Cupertino, California, USA.

Audiences in over forty US cities have been exposed to her masterful performances. In addition, with her troupe of dancers, Vidhya has expanded the outreach of Bharatanatyam through collaborations with other styles of dance: ‘The Piper’ was in collaboration with contemporary and classical dancers, and through the Asian Pacific Performing Arts Series she collaborated with Kathak and Odissi dancers, two other styles from India.

Vidhya Subramanian’s artistic talents spill into other fields as well - In 2001-2002, she anchored a television show inDialog, featuring inspiring personalities who have contributed to the cultural and technical richness of the hyphenated-American diaspora.
