Lasya
Dance Company is based in Cupertino, CA, USA. It is a registered non-profit organization founded by artistic
director Vidhya Subramanian to promote and preserve the ancient art of
Bharatanatyam.
Since its
inception in 1990, Lasya, meaning ‘graceful dancing’, has staged critically
acclaimed productions, elaborating on traditional, spiritual, modern and
collaborative themes.
In
addition to participating in group productions, many from among the eighty
Lasya dancers are regularly invited to perform at multi-cultural festivals
and events.
The Ethnic
Dance Sterngrove Festival in San Francisco has regularly featured Lasya
dancers, as have other cultural organizations in the US, namely BATA (Bay
Area Telugu Association, FIA (Federation of Indian Associations), Tamil
Manram, Sivananda Yoga Farm, Gandhi Mela, and temples in Sunnyvale, Concord
and Livermore.
Lasya arangetrams
(solo debuts) are visible proof of the high standards inculcated in its
students. Several dancers, featured under company dancers,
have debuted to much appreciation thus far.
